C.H.E.K ACADEMY & PAUL CHEK — THE FACTS THEY DON’T TELL YOU
After years of training, investing over £40,000, and reaching Master Level 5, here is what I found — and what they hope no one notices.
MISLEADING RECRUITMENT — SOLD TO PEOPLE WHO CANNOT USE IT
The Institute markets its courses as accessible and open to all, yet the curriculum is extremely advanced — requiring deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and movement science that most people do not already possess.
Worse still — the Academy instructors hold NO formal teaching qualifications. They are experts in their own field, but have no training in how to teach, support, or adapt material for different learners. If you have dyslexia, learning difficulties, or any disability? You are effectively set up to fail. They will NOT provide the support you need — but they will STILL happily take your money. That is not education. That is taking payment from people you know cannot succeed.
Worse still — prospective students are being misled about employment prospects. Individuals with no fitness background are told they can work in gyms or practice professionally with a CHEK qualification. This is categorically false. Standard gyms, employers, and insurance providers require nationally recognised qualifications first — such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Personal Trainer certificate — regardless of CHEK certification.
One student — a car salesperson — was explicitly told he could work in a gym with his CHEK qualification. This is unethical, unprofessional, and simply untrue. He was sold something he cannot use — and the Institute knew it.
Selling advanced, unregulated certification to beginners with false promises of employment — and with NO qualified teachers to support them? That is not education. That is revenue extraction at the expense of people who don’t know better.How Gavin Jennings changed everything — and lowered the standards
Gavin Jennings became CEO and took over operations in 2012.
Almost straight away, the original, long-standing faculty members began to leave. Then things changed for the worse: new faculty were paid less than those they replaced, and the strict entry requirements were abandoned.
Previously, students were expected to already be working in the fitness industry, have an established client base, and be properly vetted before joining. Under Gavin’s leadership, that policy was removed. As I was told directly: “We’re just going to take anybody now.”
This was a reckless decision. The course is extremely advanced — yet they started accepting people with no background, no experience, and no realistic way to use the qualification. The result? Many people sign up, realise it’s far beyond them, discover it won’t get them work — and are thousands of pounds out of pocket.That wasn’t bad luck. That was a policy decision made at the top.
THE CHEK CLINIC: “WALK THE TALK” — OR WALK ALL OVER EVERYONE ELSE?
The Chek Clinic claims:
• Gavin claims 220+ hour weeks — that is NOT healthy. That is burnout. He tells everyone else to live balanced, healthy lives — then destroys his own. He does NOT walk the talk.
• Paul Chek smoking substances — hardly practising what he preaches about health, lifestyle, and wellbeing.
• They train you, license you — THEN STEAL ALL THE WORK — Students pay thousands, qualify, get licensed… and get ZERO clients from the directory. Because Gavin and the favoured faculty grab every decent lead for the Chek Clinic.
• What’s left? The odd student who wants an assessment. That’s it. That’s all the work they get. Nothing else.
• “Level 1 Practitioner” scam — They call you “qualified” at Level 1 just so they can collect your license fees. But Paul himself has said you’re NOT truly qualified until Level 4 or 5. So they hand out titles, take your money, and keep the real business for themselves.
INFLATED NUMBERS — PAUL’S OWN VIDEO PROVES IT — Paul Chek stated CATEGORICALLY ON INSTAGRAM VIDEO: roughly 10,000 practitioners worldwide. Yet the Institute website claims 60,000 to 75,000. Paul says 10,000. His own website claims 7½ TIMES MORE. Which is the truth?
THE MATHS DON’T ADD UP — 75,000 PEOPLE BUT ONLY 12 REVIEWS — If there were truly 60,000–75,000 practitioners, why are there barely 12 independent public reviews worldwide? Why does their own website directory show only 706 listings total? 75,000 claimed vs 706 listed. That is 99% missing. Where is everyone?
ALMOST NO ONE EVEN SEARCHES FOR “CHEK PRACTITIONER” — Google search data reveals: “CHEK Practitioner” is searched ONLY 12 times per month. Compare that to “Personal Trainer” — 45,000 searches EVERY MONTH. They train thousands in a title almost NO ONE searches for. You spend £40,000+ on a qualification the general public DOES NOT EVEN LOOK FOR.
BULLYING, THREATS & INTIMIDATION REPORTED BY MULTIPLE SOURCES — Google search results and independent commentary confirm allegations of intimidation, legal threats, and suppression have been raised by more than one practitioner. Personally experienced: threats of legal action for speaking the truth, physical altercation, and removal from platforms for asking questions. When concerns are raised, the reported response is threats and silencing — not answers.
FOUNDER’S HEALTH CLAIMS CONTRADICT MEDICAL SCIENCE — Paul Chek appears in videos smoking tobacco and speaks openly of using other substances. He also references “1,000 plant medicine journeys”. Yet in his own Level 4 training manual, he claims tobacco smoking carries HEALTH BENEFITS. This directly contradicts every major doctor, scientist, and global health authority — ALL confirm smoking tobacco damages lung tissue, capillaries, circulation, and overall well-being. How can an organisation claim to teach holistic health when its own founder teaches — and demonstrates — practices medical science universally condemns?
ZERO DISABILITY SUPPORT — WEBSITE & CLASSROOM — There is NO accessibility support on the website for people with disabilities. NO reasonable adjustments, NO alternative formats, NO assistive features. And IN-CLASSROOM: ZERO help, ZERO adaptations, ZERO consideration. If you have a disability, you are effectively excluded. No adjustments offered — despite being a legal responsibility in the UK.
GAVIN’S COMPANIES HOUSE DISCREPANCY — Companies House filings for Gavin Jennings / CHEK Europe declare only £39,000 in assets. Yet he clearly owns a gym, an electric car, and property including a cottage. The visible assets alone exceed £39,000. Where is the rest? Is the true financial position being hidden?
FAKE EARNINGS CLAIMS — They advertise practitioners can charge £400–£800 per hour. The reality? Almost NO ONE earns anything close. Most struggle to get ANY clients at all. It’s a marketing myth used to sell courses — NOT a real income.
NO RECOGNISED TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS — Faculty hold CHEK’s OWN internal certificates, but NOT ONE holds a formal university teaching qualification or recognised qualification to teach in any standard school, college, or classroom. They are qualified ONLY through CHEK to teach CHEK. No external teaching accreditation whatsoever.
MISLEADING TITLES — LEVEL 1 IS NOT A PRACTITIONER — They DO check qualifications, BUT many people call themselves “CHEK Practitioner” when they have ONLY completed Level 1 introductory courses. You are NOT a fully qualified CHEK Practitioner until Level 4 or Level 5. Using the title at Level 1 is misleading — and they allow it to happen.
WORTHLESS ANNUAL LICENCE — Pay a yearly fee to keep your title. But the licence carries NO government validation, NO insurance recognition, NO real-world standing.
NO UK ACCREDITATION — Qualifications carry no government recognition. Not recognised by major fitness bodies. Hard to use in standard gyms.
HIDDEN & ONGOING FEES — Course prices are ONLY the start. Mandatory manuals, tools, renewal fees, licence charges, and administrative costs added WITHOUT clear notice. Can run into thousands EXTRA. Pay thousands to train → pay MORE every year just to keep the title.
REFUND POLICIES CHANGED — New terms imposed 15 July 2026. 30-day traps, charging in full for unused material, hidden fees. Breaks UK Consumer Rights Act 2015.
UNPAID LABOUR — Practitioners pressured to work for free under “mentorship” or “certification progression”.
IMPOSSIBLE CLAIMS — CEO claims working 200+ hours per week. There are only 168 hours in a week.
CHEK CONNECT FAILURE — Google data shows 99% of practitioners get ZERO enquiries, ZERO leads, ZERO work through CHEK Connect. Top spots permanently held by faculty and favourites. Everyone else buried and invisible.
SUPPRESSION — Ask honest questions → removed from directories, threatened, silenced.
People spending tens of thousands deserve transparency. These are the facts. Draw your own conclusions.
